Window Tinting Myths

Window Tinting Myths

When I am working on a customer’s vehicle, and they’re able to watch me as I do so, I can guarantee 9/10 of them will say with surprise, “that goes on the outside??!” No, window tint is not installed on the outside, but the majority of the work is done from the outside then transferred to the inside. These are things customers are unaware of, and would they not have asked, they may have assumed I just tinted the outside of their vehicle. This is how misconceptions with customers can come to life. I am going to go over a few myths about window tint such as heat rejection, affordability, and negative effects.

Window tint reduces the heat, and the darker I go, the more heat it reduces. False. That is one of the many misconceptions customers have. Metalized films once offered a small amount of heat rejection but the industry had to stray from using films with metal in them as they interfere with a lot of the newer technology being installed in auto glass. We use a demonstration in our shop that helps show customers what tints will do what against heat. If you’re looking for heat rejection, you can install a clear ceramic that will be more effective than a limo tinted dyed film.

Window tint should only cost $100. Your wheels didn’t cost $100. Your stereo didn’t cost $100. The glass on your vehicle doesn’t even cost $100. So why would a customer want their tint job to cost no more than $100? In this world you will get what you pay for and a $100 tint job is a sure way to achieve dissatisfaction. You’ll get someone who’s inexperienced and is surely using a low quality film. This tinter may offer you a lifetime warranty like all the other tint shops, but $100 tint shops don’t survive. Your $100 tinter will be out of business within a year or two and there goes your “lifetime warranty.” If quality material, clean work, and a reputable tint shop are important to you, then you will need to spend more than $100. It’s worth it in the long run to pay a little more to have it done right, then to pay less initially only to have your film bubble and turn purple in two years.

Window tint makes my house look tacky and the outside looks rainy. This can be very true with certain architectural tint. However, advancements have been made in the window film industry that allows customers the ability to have a nearly clear tint installed and still reduce their heat upwards of 80%. This film does not help much in the way of glare control but it certainly maintains a homeowner’s view while reducing UV and IR exposure.

About the films that we carry....

An educated customer is our best ally. This page is dedicated to teaching you about different window film technology in the metro area, and specifically where it concerns the films that we carry and install every day. If you are doing research to make a proper decision on what will best suit your needs, budget, and what kind of performance is preferred, please read this page in its entirety. This page may possibly be your best resource in Atlanta for making the proper film selection for your car. Take your time to learn about the different options.

Each film that we carry is rated based on performance and longevity to help you make the proper selection. Window films are great for stopping UV light, which can aggravate skin conditions. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends window films for this reason.

We use basically three different window films for installation. All of them are different from each other in many ways. Please read the explanation of each film below, and check the film rating to see which one will best suit your needs.
